Vicky meets a new real-life hero

Given the reports of biopics on cricket legends Lala Amarnath and Sourav Ganguly in the plans, Vicky Kaushal is being asked if he is doing any film on the sport. Which is not surprising as the Sardar Udham actor has two biopics on his plate—the upcoming Sam Bahadur, and Chhava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. During the promotion of Sam Manekshaw biopic on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Vicky met Jammu-Kashmir para cricket captain Aamir Hussain Lone, who was also present for the episode. Inspired by the video of the young sportstar, the actor said,  “The word Bahadur is not used for everyone, but this word is actually made for Aamir bhai. He is a true hero and I salute him, and his bravery.” When asked if he will do a biopic on an Indian cricketer, the actor added, “Aamir bhai solved my biggest problem. I will consider myself very lucky if I get a chance to showcase his life through a movie. Today, I am going back home with my heart filled with inspiration.”

High on 2024

After the success of 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey has lots to look forward to in the coming months. Besides films like Sector 36 and Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, the actor and his wife Sheetal are set to welcome their first child in 2024. Conceding that he hasn’t yet planned the nursery, Vikrant says, “You can’t prepare enough for [parenthood], you can only take it as it comes. My immediate priority is that both the mother and the baby should be healthy and fine, the rest will follow.” Vikrant, who didn’t take much of a break when he and Sheetal tied the knot in February 2022, will take time off work post her delivery. “I will have to. If I don’t, then my wife will throw me out of the house 100 per cent,” he jokes.

Tanishaa owns the stage

Tanishaa Mukerji is set to take the Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11 stage by storm this weekend. In keeping with the theme, Chartbuster ka Blockbuster, the actor impressed the judges with her Rajasthani folk dance moves to the iconic song, Choli ke peechhe, with her choreographer Tarun Raj Nihlani. “You always present something new every week,” said Farah Khan.  Co-judge Arshad Warsi lauded her courage in performing the dance form. He said, “Kalbeliya can’t be learnt in just a month or so. This is done by generations. It’s a classical dance form that takes long to master. But you did it amazingly in the limited time available.”

Akshay Oberoi is the latest to join the starry brigade at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. His film, Dil Hai Grey, helmed by Susi Ganeshan, which got a standing ovation during its première at the Toronto International Film Festival, is set to wow audiences at IFFI now. In this rollercoaster of emotions with an engaging narrative in the film, which also features Urvashi Rautela and Vineet Kumar Singh, Akshay plays an intriguing character with grey shades. Excited about showcasing the film, the actor said, “It’s an honour to showcase our film at such a prestigious platform, and I am eager to share this cinematic journey with the audience. Working with Susi Ganeshan, Urvashi Rautela, and Vineet Kumar Singh has been a rewarding experience, and I believe the viewers are in for a treat.”

Raju kept costing of SRK’s next in tight control

Talk in the trade is that unlike the big-budget action extravaganzas Pathaan and Jawan, Dunki is amongst the most reasonably budgeted movies of Shah Rukh Khan in recent years. Sources credit it to filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who is also known for his meticulous planning. “Being a writer-director, Raju is clear at the onset about what he has to shoot and how. So, he doesn’t waste time in filming portions that he will cut out later. He completed the shoot of Dunki in 70 odd days,” says an informer. He shares that excluding Hirani and SRK’s fees, the movie has apparently cost them just about R90 crore to make. The source further adds that with an all-out print-and-advertising campaign, given the clash with Prashanth Neel and Prabhas’s Salaar, Dunki remains a safe bet as the satellite, digital and theatrical rights have been sold for a fat amount. Moreover, SRK and Hirani will share the profits, as decided at the start.

Legends meet up

Legends meet up

It’s not often that two legends shoot their respective movies on adjacent floors in the same studio premises without knowing about the other. Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth were surprised to know that the other was working next door. During the break, Tamil cinema’s Ulganayagan and Thalaivar met up for a chat like long-lost friends. Haasan was shooting for Indian 2, while Rajini was filming Thalaivar 170. Incidentally, both their films are backed by Lyca Productions, which shared visuals from their meeting on social media. Predictably, the pictures of the two icons’ bonding went viral in no time.
