Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra’s rendition of Aaj jaane ki zid na karo has invited criticism from netizens. The actor shared a clip highlighting that the song was her “nana’s” favourite. While some fans appreciated her efforts, and wrote: “He would have loved to hear you sing this”, and stated that she had a “magical voice”, others were not so generous with their comments. “Aaj gaane ki zid na karo,” wrote one user, while another questioned who convinced the actor that “she can sing”. Another fan added: “Autotune doesn’t work on stage.” We suppose, Chopra is well in the know that no success comes easy! Surely this is the start of a promising career.

Importance of education

On February 6, Taapsee Pannu is expected to head to Lucknow and Chandigarh to interact with underprivileged girls associated with the Nanhi Kali foundation. Pannu, who aims to contribute towards providing education for underprivileged girls across various states in India, has been associated with the foundation since three years. She plans to spend a day with the children, indulge in conversations, and gift them books, like the Aamr Chitra Katha,  rackets, and other essentials.

Khao, piyo, meme banao

Actor and politician Jaya Bachchan, who often gets into a playful tiff with the paparazzi, has said that in being a “meme-generator”, she “provides meals” for people. On her grand-daughter’s show, What the Hell, Navya, Jaya was informed by her daughter Shweta that the term ‘Jaya-ing’ implied being “salty”, to which she said, “I provide meals for some of the people who do my memes. I don’t mind people making fun of me, but people should do it properly.” Other aspects that they spoke about included the respect, or lack thereof, that is given to a housewife.

Treating it with deft

The use of technology cannot be “gimmicky” and should be done with proper permissions, says music maestro AR Rahman, who has used AI software to recreate the voices of late singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed for a new track. Rahman is happy that artificial intelligence technology, which is a hot button issue in the world with many looking at it with a mix of awe and fear, allowed him to bring back the voices of his friends and past collaborators on many songs. “[You should do it] only when you really need it and only when you can do it. It should not be half-baked. It is not a gimmick, it’s an effect and has to serve the purpose,” Rahman said in an interview. Bakya and Hameed are credited as playback singers for the track Thimiri Yezhuda in Lal Salaam, directed by Rajinikanth’s daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The film is scheduled to release on February 9.

Juhi remembers filming Ishq

Juhi Chawla took a walk down memory lane and reminisced about shooting the romantic action comedy, Ishq (1997). “While shooting for Ishq, Ajay [Devgn] and Aamir [Khan], despite their straight faces and innocent appearances, would continuously play pranks. There was a new assistant director, and whenever he came to give the clap for a shot, Ajay and Aamir would poke him and the clapboard would shake. As a result, the assistant director would often get scolded by our director, Indra Kumar. Sometimes they would even erase the markings for the shot. Each time, the assistant director would be scolded by our director, unaware that it was actually Aamir and Ajay who were behind the mischief,” Chawla said during a reality show. Ishq also starred Devgn’s wife Kajol.

This flight is arriving soon

Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon’s upcoming heist comedy, The Crew, will release in theatres on March 29. Kapoor shared the news by posting a teaser video that features the three actors dressed in flight crew outfits, walking at an airport. “Buckle up, get your popcorn ready, and get ready to be served,” the actor wrote on Instagram while sharing the release date. The film, which is reportedly set against the backdrop of the struggling airline industry, has been directed by Rajesh Krishnan.

Attentive to what matters

Tamil superstar Vijay, who was recently seen in the film, Leo, and is awaiting the release of his upcoming movie, The Goat Life, has decided to quit cinema for his political career. He announced his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, yesterday. In a long official statement, the actor said that there is a need for political power to do social work in a full-fledged manner. His party members will contest in the 2026 elections. “On one side, we have a dysfunctional administration and corrupt political culture, and on the other, we have divisive politics that aims to divide people. It is my desire to help the Tamil community,” he wrote.
