On Saturday, Hamas militants attacked Israel using motorcycles, pickup trucks, boats, paragliders, and mid-range rockets and launched a highly coordinated attack, sneaking into Israeli cities, hitting military bases, and killing and taking hostage soldiers and civilians. Reports claim that at least 200 people were killed and hundreds of others injured. Several people were rescued and taken to safer places. Actress Nushrratt Bharuccha is among them.

Nushrratt flew to Israel to attend the Haifa International Film Festival 2023. Her film, Akelli, was screened there. According to a statement from her team to India Today, the actress has been stranded in Israel and she cannot be contacted.

The statement read, "Nushrratt has been unfortunately stranded in Israel. She had flown there to attend the Haifa International Film Festival. The last time that I managed to get in touch with her was around 12.30 pm earlier today (Saturday), when she was safe in a basement. For safety measures, further details cannot be disclosed. However, since then, we were not able to connect. We are trying to get Nushrratt back safely to India and hope she returns back in the best of health and unharmed."

Nushrratt's thriller, Akelli, was set in Iraq and showcased how a person realizes her own capabilities in adverse situations like being trapped in the desert. The film, directed by debutant filmmaker Pranay Meshram, released on August 25.

In a statement before the Haifa International Film Festival 2023, Nushrratt said, "My movie's name is Akelli which means alone. But being here in Israel, with such an amazing audience, a  great cast, great team, I can tell u one thing for sure, I do not feel alone at all! And that truly goes to everyone who is my audience. I do films for my audience, and I'd love to see what you have to say about it."

Talking about shooting for Akelli, Nushrratt said in an interview with IANS, "We were shooting for the scene where I try to escape from captivity from ISIS. I fell and hit the marble floor and the pain was so hard that I really thought that I've got a concussion and something has been damaged internally. I was advised to take it easy for a couple of days and I couldn't wait to get back to shooting. 'Akelli' has truly been a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget about in my life."
