Supreme Court grants Interim bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

On May 10, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until June 1. He is required to surrender on June 2. The court did not accept his lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi's, request to extend the bail until June 4. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate as part of a money laundering investigation linked to alleged irregularities in the scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

In 2019, HM Amit Shah moved a resolution revoking Article 370 from J&K in Rajya Sabha on August 05. The resolution was passed and PM Modi-led Centre scrapped Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. It also brought an end to the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. Even after 5 years, the abrogation of Article 370 still haunts Pakistan, one of the biggest setbacks internationally. K Annamalai criticizes DMK over freshly released Electoral Bonds data

Lottery king Santiago Martin's Future Gaming was the biggest purchaser of electoral bonds at Rs 1,368 crore, of which nearly 37 per cent went to the DMK, the Election Commission data showed on March 17. The company donated Rs 509 crore to Tamil Nadu's ruling party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), through the electoral bond. Tamil Nadu’s BJP Chief K Annamalai slammed the DMK-led MK Stalin Government and said, “How can you get 90 per cent from a company that too is involved in lottery and gaming? DMK has to come out. Chief Minister has gone against one private new magazine in Tamil Nadu for defamation, where he has given in writing to a Court an affidavit that he never took money from any of the companies that are involved in the gambling and gaming business.”

Citizenship Amendment Act: Pak refugees thank PM Modi for implementation of CAA

After years of delay, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 has been finally implemented in India. The Union Home Ministry on March 11 notified rules for implementation of the CAA, days ahead of LS Polls 2024. The Act aims to confer Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and arrived in India before December 31, 2014. Shortly after the announcement, celebrations broke out among the Pak refugees who had taken shelter in India. Elated by the implementation, one of the refugees from Jodhpur, called PM Modi an ‘incarnation of God’ and also thanked him. Watch video

Citizenship Amendment Act: Modi Govt announces implementation of CAA

After years of delay, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 has been finally implemented in India. The Union Home Ministry has notified rules for implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on March 11, days ahead of LS Polls 2024. Home Minister Amit Shah, on multiple occasions, said that CAA rules would be notified ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May. Since 2020, MHA has been regularly seeking extensions from Parliamentary committees to continue process of framing rules associated with it. Following the passage of CAA by Parliament in Dec 2019 and its subsequent Presidential assent, significant uproar erupted in various parts of country. Over a hundred individuals lost their lives either during protests or due to police action subsequent to passage of law in Parliament. Notably, TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, has been opposing the CAA which also included a massive uproar in WB. Notably, assurance of implementing CAA was a significant electoral agenda for BJP ahead of the LS Polls 2024

The Supreme Court praised the growing Indian economy as robust and recognised in the world. The Supreme Court’s observation came while hearing the suit filed by Kerala Government against Centre. The Kerala Govt accused the Centre of not allowing it to borrow more money to meet its needs. Justices Surya Kant, KV Vishwanathan were hearing Kerala Govt’s plea raising the grave financial crisis. The Supreme Court remarked that India's economy is robust and is recognised in the entire world. PM Modi has exuded confidence in returning to power and making the nation third-largest economy.
