Public Examinations Act, 2024: Centre brings anti-paper leak law amid exam row

Alleged malpractices in conducting NEET exams, and cancellation of UGC-NET June 2024 sparked outrage. Meanwhile, the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 came into effect on June 22 amid intensifying rows. The law aims to prevent unfair means in public examinations and common entrance tests held across the country. The Act also prohibits disclosing exam-related confidential info before time, entry of unauthorised people to exam centres to create disruptions. The offences will be punishable with imprisonment between three and five years, and a fine up to Rs 10 lakh. The offences under the new law will also be cognizable, non-bailable, and non-compoundable.

SC Demands Seeks Answers From NTA Over NEET-UG 2024 Paper Leak Allegations

A huge controversy has erupted after the announcement of this year’s National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination results on June 4. The results were scheduled to release on 14th june but were instead released 10 days earlier. Howeve, the results drew the immediate attention of several students who raised concerns over irregularities in the awarding of marks. They alleged that the marks seemed off, with 67 students somehow getting a perfect score of 720/720, which is pretty rare. Physics Wallah CEO Alakh Pandey on June 10 said that they had filed a PIL on June 09 raising several questions as to why NTA is hiding the paper leak issue and why isn't it being investigated? The Supreme Court on 11th June issued notice to National Testing Agency (NTA) on pleas seeking fresh NEET-UG, 2024 examination amid allegations of paper leak and said the “sanctity” of the exam has been affected and it needs answer from the testing agency. The controversy surrounding NEET UG 2024 is significant as it impacts the future of thousands of aspiring medical students.
