India on Nov 07 successfully carried out the test of the Pralay tactical ballistic missile off the coast of Odisha. As per defence officials, the missile test was highly successful in all parameters and it travelled its full range of around 500 km. In order to create the country’s strong rocket force, last year Defense Ministry cleared the induction of Pralay missile. The Pralay missiles will be acquired at a cost of over Rs 7,500 crore which will be used in conventional roles. 'Pralay' powered by a solid propellant rocket motor and other technologies has been developed by the DRDO. The Pralay ballistic missiles can take out targets at 150 to 500 kms and are extremely difficult to intercept for the enemy. The missile system started getting development around 2015 and its development was given a push by the late Gen Bipin Rawat as COAS. Notably, in the past also India has carried out successful tests of the missile.

Notably, the death toll has mounted to 11, and at least 50 people were injured in the tragic accident. CPRO East Coast Railways informed that 18 trains have been cancelled and around 22 have been diverted. Andhra CM YS Jagan ordered immediate relief measures at the accident site. The Prime Minister has also announced the ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased.

Days after the tragic Balasore triple train accident, CBI arrested three railways officials on July 07. The central probe agency said that the accused have been arrested under sections 304, 201 of CrPC. The arrested railways employees have been identified as Arun Kumar Mahanta, senior section engineer; Amir Khan, section engineer; technician Pappu Kumar. CBI in its investigation found that the accused railway employees were also involved in the tampering of evidence. The arrested accused will be presented in the competent court and CBI will demand custody. The Railway Board had recommended a CBI probe into the accident following which on June 06. The CBI has already registered a First Information Report (FIR) in this matter. The horrific incident involving Coromandel Express, Shalimar Express and goods train claimed 291 lives and injured over 1000.

In a fresh incident of train collision in India, two goods trains collided at Ondagram railway station in Bankura in West Bengal on June 25. Several wagons and engines of a goods train derailed in the accident. Rail operation on Kharagpur–Bankura–Adra line was halted for some time. As of now, 11 trains have been cancelled.
