Mira Road Violence: Security heightened, police personnel on alert at Mira Road

After a clash was reported from Mumbai's Mira Road, bulldozers razed illegal structures and encroachments in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road on Tuesday. "Illegal structures and encroachments were razed by bulldozers in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road where Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha celebrations were stone pelted. After instructions from the Maharashtra government, action is being taken by the Municipal Corporation with the help of the police," the Maharashtra government said. Meanwhile, three persons were arrested in Mumbai and an FIR was filed against unknown individuals after at least four cases of outraging religious sentiments were filed in the city following the Mira Road Violence.

Violence erupted between two groups in Mira Road area of Mumbai on January 22, Pran Pratishtha Day. A day after the clash, bulldozers razed illegal structures, encroachments in Naya Nagar area of Mira Road. Soon after the Mira Road Violence incident, heavy police force was deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation. Locals in Mira Road reacted after the violent incident and they lauded police action for stabilizing the situation. Police issued a fresh advisory on Jan 24 asking all groups not to forward any messages related to clashes on social media. The violent incident was reported on Jan 22, the same day when the Ram Mandir ‘Pran Pratishtha’ was performed.

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday razed ‘illegal’ structures and encroachments in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road in Thane where a clash between two groups of people was reported on the eve of Ram temple ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony in Ayodhya Gita Jain. BJP MLA from Mira Bhayander Constituency, explained the sequence of events that led to the violence. Following the Mira Road Violence, wherein two groups clashed, next to Mumbai, significant security measures have been enforced in the region. Police have detained a man seen agitating people in a viral video on social media. According to the report, in response to Mira Road clash, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the arrest of thirteen individuals, with ongoing efforts to identify other suspects.

A 56-year-old man has been arrested by the Naya Nagar police for murdering his 32-year-old live in partner at Mira Road. According to the police, the woman was murdered two to three days ago. The occupants of the building got a foul smell emanating from one of the flats and alerted the cops. The police said that they found the woman’s body cut into pieces. The deceased has been identified as Saraswati Vaidya, while her-live in partner is Manoj Sane.
