After intense rain, a tree branch fell on at least two cars that were parked on the road close to the Karangalapadi neighbourhood in Mangaluru city, causing damage, according to the police. Anupam Agrawal, Commissioner of Mangaluru City Police, states that the event happened on Tuesday night at around 9:30 p.m.

"Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (MESCOM) officials arrived at the site and cleared parts of the tree branch. Two vehicles were damaged," the official said. In another incident earlier, on Monday, a seven-year-old student died after the compound wall of the school at Newpadpu in Harekala collapsed.

Pre-monsoon storms have been battering Mangaluru and Udupi, the twin districts of the coastal region, according to an ANI report. This has resulted in abundant rainfall in several regions. In Dakshina Karnataka, fierce rainstorms battered Beltangady, Mundaje, Charmady, Guruvayanakere, Koyyuru, Madyantharu, and Dharmasthala.

Significant rainfall was experienced in the Udupi district, Udupi city area, Manipal, Kundapur, Tekkatte, Basruru, and Karkala. From May 19 to 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow advisory, indicating that rain would persist.

Fishermen were warned not to venture into the sea from May 18 to 22 due to a potential low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal, which may bring turbulence to the Arabian Sea. The Dakshina Kannada district administration instructed all fishing boats in the deep sea to return to shore immediately.
