A 42-year-old Nigerian woman who had come to India after her husband was jailed in a drug trafficking case allegedly took over her spouse’s illicit business and started selling narcotics in the city with the help of her 20-year-old son. The Malwani police arrested the youth, Frank Ezi, with mephedrone (MD) worth about R5 lakh on Saturday night.

His mother, Grace, is absconding and the police are searching for her. According to the police sources, the mother and son had come to rescue Frank’s father, Kenneth, 44, who has been in Taloja jail for the past one and a half years.

“Frank’s father was caught with a kilo of MD by the Mumbai Police. Grace and Frank came to India to get him out,” said an officer attached to the Malwani police. The duo were staying in a rented house in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai and selling drugs in the various parts of the city and surrounding areas, the officer said.

Frank was caught red-handed with the drugs near the Manav Sthal building on Lagoon Road in  Malad West around 11.30 pm by API Nilesh Salunkhe and his team. “We had received information from an informer and caught Frank and have recovered 100 grams of MD,” said an officer.

While being interrogated, Frank confessed and revealed that he had come to India along with his mother to rescue Kenneth. “We registered a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and booked Frank and his mother Grace, who is still at large,” said Senior Inspector Chimaji Adhav of the Malwani police station.
