A massive fire broke out in Mumbai’s Govandi area in the early hours of Saturday. 


According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), around 15 commercial units and some houses were damaged in a fire that broke out in Mumbai's Govandi area early on Saturday, in which nobody was reported injured. The fire broke out at Baiganwadi in Adarsh Nagar area of Govandi.


Fire in Govandi: 15 commercial units, some houses damaged


The fire brigade received a call at 3.55 am, which alerted it about the blaze, the civic body said.

"Around 15 galas (commercial units) on the ground floor and some houses on the first floor were damaged in the fire that broke out in a chawl at Bainganwadi in Adarsh Nagar area of Govandi," a fire brigade official told news agency PTI.

Fire in Govandi: No injuries

The fire engulfed some electrical wiring and installations, plastic sheets, household items, wooden planks and furniture, among other things, the BMC said, adding that attempts to douse the flames were underway.

Some water tankers along with an ambulance were rushed to the spot. Nobody was found injured and the exact cause of the fire is yet to be known, the official told PTI.

Fire in Govandi: Other incidents

Meanwhile, a massive fire broke out in an electric shop in Mumbai's Dhobi Talao area on February 9.

Several fire tenders are present at the spot and the operation to douse the fire is underway, reported news agency ANI.

According to the Fire Service Department, three fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire.

There has been no report of any casualty in the incident till now, said the Fire Service Department, reported ANI.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, around 150 vehicles parked in a scrap yard in suburban Bandra in Mumbai were damaged in a fire, a fire brigade official said, reported PTI.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

"The blaze erupted at around 6:30 pm. It was a level 1 fire and doused at around 8:14 pm," he said, adding that the exact cause of the fire cannot be known immediately, reported PTI.
