On the Mumbai Pune Expressway, close to the Urse toll plaza, a private bus, with 36 passengers aboard, caught fire and it was caused due to a tyre burst and leakage in the air-conditioning system. None of the passengers were hurt in the incident, said officials.

The incident happened at a distance of 78 kilometres into the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

Officials stated that the bus caught fire due to a short circuit which was likely started by an AC leak. Furthermore, one of the car's tyres burst adding to the pandemonium and escalating the issue.

Personnel from the fire brigade and other emergency services quickly arrived at the area to handle the situation after being alerted.

The visuals that were circulating on the web showed the fire had enveloped the bus charring everything.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the short circuit and subsequent fire and also cleared the vehicle from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
