As the latest edition of fashion's biggest event - the MET Gala, is around the corner, we take a look at celebs who flaunted their romance at the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York but parted ways eventually.

Selena Gomez-The Weeknd

Pop sensation Selena Gomez left fans off-guard when her plus one for the 2017 MET Gala was ‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker The Weeknd. Gomez and The Idol judge Abel Tesfaye were linked for ten months in 2017. They started dating soon after Gomez broke up with Justin Bieber and the ‘R&B’ singer split from Bella Hadid. The couple was first seen together on a dinner date in January 2017 and later that month formally acknowledged their connection. The ‘Lose You to Love Me’ Singer joined the performers of ‘Save Your Tears’ on his international tour. When she had a kidney transplant in 2017 as a result of her Lupus struggle, reports suggested that he stayed by her side the entire time. The couple split up in October 2017.

Shawn Mendes-Hailey Baldwin

In 2018, Hailey Baldwin and Shawn Mendes stunned everyone with their appearance as a couple at the MET Gala. However, their romance was short-lived since a month later, Hailey took down pictures of her and Shawn from the event which she earlier shared on Instagram. She was then spotted with Justin Bieber. They married the same year at a courthouse in New York.

Shawn Mendes-Camila Cabello

One of the most-talked-about couples -- Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes brought their fashion A-game to the Met Gala 2021. Camila wore a purple sparkly crop top and skirt while Shawn flaunted his chiselled physique in an open leather jacket and black pants. However, in November 2021, they released a joint statement announcing their split. "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever," Shawn and Camila wrote in their statements. The two officially took their friendship to another level in the summer of 2019.

Gigi Hadid-Zayn Malik

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik wore matching robotic-looking ensembles for the 2016 MET Gala. Despite an on-and-off relationship, the couple welcomed a daughter named Khai in September 2020. The couple split up a year later in October 2021 after an alleged incident that took place between Malik and Gigi's mother Yolanda Hadid. Zayn was charged with four criminal offences of harassment after the alleged altercation with Yolanda. After pleading no contest, he was put on 90-day probation for each of his four offences and was asked to take part in an anger management course.

Miley Cyrus-Liam Hemsworth

American singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus made a sparkling appearance with Liam Hemsworth at the MET Gala in 2019 after they got married in 2018. They first met on the sets of the movie 'The Last Song' in 2008. After dating on and off for many years, Hemsworth popped the big question for the second time in 2016. However, in 2020, the couple parted ways and finalised their divorce.
