Anticipation for Met Gala 2024, often dubbed the Oscars of fashion, has peaked with the unveiling of the star-studded guest list that promises an evening of glamour, style and high-profile appearances.

The 2024 Met Gala theme is 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion' and an official dress code of 'The Garden of Time' promises to inspire creativity and innovation from the attendees, who will no doubt pull out all the stops to interpret the theme in their own unique ways, as per Page Six. With tickets priced at USD 50,000 per person and approval required from fashion maven Anna Wintour, the Met Gala remains one of the most exclusive events on the global fashion calendar.

The Met Gala has some strict and specific rules that every attendee must adhere to. While some are standard, a few wacky rules have also been incorporated:

  1. No phones are allowed inside the venues. This means no scrolling on social media or taking selfies on the red carpet. Anna Wintour made this rule to maintain an air of mystery around the event.

  2. No children or teenagers are allowed at the event. The Gala has a strict '18 and above' policy.

  3. Attendees are only allowed to sit in their assigned seats and there are strict seating assignments.

  4. Anna Wintour handles every aspect of the seating and the guest list. You cannot bring a plus one without the approval of Wintour.

  5. Parsley, onion, and garlic are reportedly not allowed at the Met Gala because Wintour doesn't want the attendees to have garlic and onion or have parsley stuck on their teeth.

  6. No smoking inside or outside the venue. Since smoking in public places is banned in New York City, the same applies to the Met Gala.

  7. Attendees cannot touch the exhibits. The Met's website states, "Please do not touch the artwork, frames, platforms, labels, display cases, or anything used to protect the art".

  8. If you skip the Met Gala once, don’t count on another invite. A source spilled to Page Six that if you miss the event without any valid reason, you might not get another invite. Even if you’re super famous, saying no might reduce your chance to get an invite for the future Galas.

The Met Gala has been traditionally taking place every first Monday of May. Commonly referred to as either the Met Ball or the Met Gala, the event is formally known as the Costume Institute Gala and is a fundraiser dedicated to New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The Met Gala also marks the opening night of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit.
