Dr. Rohini Ghavari

A mother who sweeps the hospital floors and sells her jewelry to support Rohini Ghavari's dreams. A father who now does social service for the public. How did this family fight stereotypes to educate their little girl?

“My mother sweeps the hospital floors in the Insurance Hospital of Indore, to help us four brothers and sisters achieve what we aspire for. Her hard work and prayers have finally bear fruit. My dear countryman, your sister is now Dr. Rohini Ghavari,” says Dr. Rohini. She secured a doctorate degree in PhD in Switzerland.

A resident of Indore, Dr. Rohini Ghavari's journey of fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor is anything but ordinary. With one bread earner, Dr. Rohini's family of five members found it difficult to make ends meet. While her mother is a sweeper at the Insurance Hospital of Indore, her father is now in social service.

Dr. Rohini shares that her childhood years were spent in the Palasia area of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Born on the 28th of August, she hails from the Dalit community. Apart from here, she has two younger sisters and a younger brother, all brought up in abject poverty. She shared that her mother has made them this capable by working extremely hard and selling her dear jewelry. Her mother still works as a sweeper.

Despite her lack of resources, Rohini went on to become a PhD in Switzerland. "After a hard struggle and all the ups and downs of life, I have achieved this position. My success is the success of all those children who dream and who know how to do a lot in spite of deprivation. The credit for my success goes to Babasaheb Ambedkar Ji, the Government of India for giving me a scholarship, to the taxpayers, and my family. Only the attitude of never giving up leads to success in life," she said.

Dr. Rohini is an Indian representative in the United Nations, a social worker, and an educationist. After a lot of hard work, she earned a scholarship of INR 1 crore from the Madhya Pradesh Government. Recently, she was also a topic of discussion on social media. From being trolled to being supported, the video of her speech greeting all the Ram devotees and sharing her opinion on how the Ram Mandir is helping in the economic growth of the country has run through a wave of inspiration amongst the youth of the nation.

Dr. Rohini is a promising student and powerful speaker who believes in addressing her views outspokenly and wholeheartedly. She completed her early education in Indore. She is the eldest daughter among her siblings. Her father's source of earnings wasn't sufficient to pay off their expenses, but her mother somehow kept paying their fees. After completing her MSc, she got the scholarship and stepped foot in Switzerland to become a PhD. The overall expenses over there cost up to INR 2 lakh monthly, including the cost of education and that is very expensive for someone coming from a poor background.
