Gunners 'Spurred' on

Bukayo Saka said Arsenal had learned lessons from last season’s Premier League collapse as they held off a stirring Tottenham fightback to beat their bitter London rivals 3-2 on Sunday.  The league leaders were in cruise control at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at half-time after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s own goal was followed by goals for Saka and Kai Havertz.  But Spurs produced a stirring second-half response, given a helping hand by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, who chipped straight to Cristian Romero in the 64th minute. Son Heung-min made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 87th minute but Arsenal held on despite a nervy final few moments.  ‘Last 20 minutes wasn’t nice’ “The last 20 minutes wasn’t nice, but it was worth it,” England forward Saka told Sky Sports.  “We know it is a big derby and they don’t want to lose 0-3 at home. Momentum shifted their way, but I am proud of the boys—we managed to get the three points. We needed to be calm and everything was frantic. We showed our level heads at the end and I am proud of everyone, it was a nice moment —we know what it means to the fans,” he said.  Saka said Arsenal, who led the way for most of last season before faltering badly in the final weeks, had toughened up. “We showed that today,” he said.  “Maybe last season that could have ended in a draw and we showed we have the experience.” The victory lifts Mikel Arteta’s to 80 points with three games to play.  Manchester City, aiming for an unprecedented fourth straight English top-flight title, are four points behind Arsenal but have two games in hand.  Bournemouth beat Brighton In Sunday’s other early kick-off, Bournemouth beat Brighton 3-0 through goals from Marcos Senesi, Enes Unai and Justin Kluivert. Petr Kratky

Boss Kratky hails Chhangte as Mumbai City host Goa today

Mumbai City FC head coach Petr Kratky has encouraged his team to optimise their home advantage in Monday’s decisive Indian Super League semi-final second leg against FC Goa at the Mumbai Football Arena. The Islanders produced a late comeback to win the opening leg of their last-four clash against the Gaurs 3-2 at the Fatorda Stadium last week. Trailing by 0-2 until the 90th minute, a brace by Lallianzuala Chhangte and a solitary strike by Vikram Partap Singh in added time saw the ISL 2022-23 champions win bragging rights against Manolo Marquez’s men with a one goal advantage. Also Read: A tale of two loyalties However, despite Mumbai City and needing only a draw, Kratky wants his s boys to avoid basking in their glory from Goa and look to win and make it to the summit clash. “We know it’ll be a difficult game against a quality opposition. For me, the game starts 0-0 again. Whatever happened in the previous leg doesn’t matter. Whoever wins this one goes through to the final, and we have to go for a win. We have to use our power and score goals,” Kratky said in the pre-match press conference on Sunday. Kratky praised incumbent ISL Golden Ball-winner Chhangte, who inspired their breath-taking turnaround with two timely strikes. Chhangte took time to find his footing earlier in the campaign, but picked up form recently to sizzle for the Islanders. He has nine goals from 23 appearances. “Chhangte is one of the best players in India, doing what he needs to do, which is working hard, and scoring goals. He has managed to bounce back from the start of the season and has been scoring goals and contributing to the cause of the team. He deserves all the recognition he’s getting at the moment,” Kratky said.

‘Not in a mood to talk’

Jurgen Klopp said he was “not in the mood” to discuss Liverpool’s Premier League title chances after a 2-2 draw at West Ham on Saturday effectively snuffed out their hopes.  Just weeks ago Liverpool were on course for a quadruple of trophies but Klopp’s final season at Anfield is fizzling out. The latest blow came at the London Stadium, where the visitors realistically had to win to have any chance of staying in the hunt alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.  Antonio scores equalizer A goal from Andy Robertson and an own goal from West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola put Liverpool 2-1 in front, but Michail Antonio powered a header past Allison Becker to pull David Moyes’s side level.  Also Read: Bangladesh Women Eye Strong start against India The single point leaves Liverpool third in the table on 75 points, one behind defending champions City, who have two games in hand.  Leaders Arsenal are two points clear of Liverpool, with a game in hand. Klopp, whose side were dumped out of the FA Cup and Europa League at the quarter-final stage, brushed aside questions about the title race in the aftermath of the disappointing draw.  “I’m not in the mood to talk about that to be honest or look at that at all,” he told TNT Sports.  “We had to win here, we knew that, and we didn’t, and now we have a little bit more time between now and the next game. We try to get the boys ready again and we will go again.”  Leicester earn promotion Meanwhile, Leicester City were promoted to EPL after rivals Leeds crashed to a shock 0-4 defeat at Queens Park Rangers. The result leaves Leicester top of the Championship with 94 points with two games to play. Darwin Nunez, who was also about to enter as a sub, got in between Salah and Klopp and pushed away his teammate. “No, we already spoke in the dressing room. I want to keep trying to do that because when I find the net we seem to go and win games.
