Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had a training session with the team ahead of their opening T20 World Cup 2024 clash against Ireland on June 5 in New York.


The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be played in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29. Team India will play their only warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Rohit Sharma's form will be important in determining how far India goes in the T20 World Cup 2024. His blistering starts alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal or Virat Kohli will be crucial in terms of run rate.

India's traditional opening batsman Rohit is the fourth-highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup history. So far, he has scored 963 runs with an average of 34.39 and a strike rate of 127.88. With this, the right-hander also has nine half-centuries to his name with a best score of unbeaten 79 runs.

In the recently concluded IPL 2024, former Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit had a decent run. Featuring 14 matches, he score 417 runs with an average of 32.07 and a strike rate of 150.00. He had one century and fifty. His best score was 105* this season.

In the tournament, India will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022 but failed to secure a big ICC trophy.

Team India last won a T20 World Cup title was in the inaugural edition back in 2007. In the previous edition, the "Men in Blue" fell short against England by 10 wickets in the semifinals.
