My neighbour is very friendly, but I also get the sense that he’s interested in asking me out. We’re around the same age and have known each other for over a year, but I don’t know if this is a good idea. I like him and have no problem going on a date, but I worry about what may or may not happen if things don’t work out. I think of it as the equivalent of dating someone at the office. What should I do? I’ve been single for a year now and I think he’s a nice, good-looking, successful guy. But if this doesn’t go well, it will be strange to continue being neighbours. I’m confused.
Everything you are worried about is speculative. You haven’t gone on that date because he hasn’t asked you out; you don’t know if he wants to ask you out or if he has feelings for you because he hasn’t said anything specific; and you’re concerned about potential awkwardness if a relationship doesn’t work out. If you like this person, the best thing to do is get to know him. He may just be a polite person and you may be misinterpreting his actions for interest. Also, if you like him, nothing stops you from asking him out to gauge his intentions either. Relationships either work out or they don’t, and being in the same office or the same building doesn’t change the fact that they require two people to want the same things and work towards a common goal.

I trust my boyfriend but don’t always understand his actions and why he does the things he does. Is this a problem?
If you don’t understand something, you should ask for an explanation until you do. If the explanation isn’t satisfactory, ask for another one. Either way, this isn’t something that can’t be resolved without clear and open lines of communication. Tell him if something is bothering you.
