With great difficulty, Bangladesh managed to score just 59 runs more than South Africa opener Quinton de Kock's 174 and suffered a humiliating loss of 149 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

On the eve of the Bangladesh clash, SA's interim captain Aiden Markram repeatedly stressed that his team will aim to ‘replicate' their top-class performance against England, who they outclassed by 229 runs on Saturday. And Proteas did exactly that by outplaying Bangladesh and acquiring second place in the points table with a top net run-rate of 2.370.

Markram opted to bat on a fresh pitch, but lost opener Reeza Hendricks (12) and Rassie van der Dussen (1) by the eighth over when SA had just 36 runs on the board. However, De Kock and Markram (60, 7x4) batted sensibly before left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan (1-69) dismissed Markram through Litton Das and ended their 131-run third wicket stand. Opener De Kock capitalised on his good start in his 150th ODI and registered an elegant century, his 20th in ODIs and third of the ongoing World Cup. The stylish batsman took just 140 balls for his 174, which included 15 fours and seven sixes.

The hero of SA's win over England, Heinrich Klaasen, continued his fine form and smashed 90 off just 49 balls with a couple of fours and eight sixes.

In response to SA's mammoth score of 382-5, the Bangladesh batsmen had a tough time as half of their side were back in the dressing room with just 58 runs on the board. However, when there was nothing to lose other than the game, veteran Mahmudullah (111, 11x4, 4x6) cashed in on the opportunity, scoring his fourth century in his 225th ODI. Apart from his century, the unsuccessful chase attempt looked terrible. SA pacer Gerald Coetzee returned figures of 3-62, while Marco Jansen, Lizaad Williams and Kagiso Rabada claimed two wickets apiece.

Brief scores
SA 382-5 in 50 overs (Q de Kock 174, H Klaasen 90, A Markram 60, D Miller 34'; H Mahmud 2-67) beat Bangladesh 233 all out in 46.4 overs (Mahmudullah 111; G Coetzee 3-62, M Jansen 2-39, K Rabada 2-42, L Williams 2-56) by 149 runs
