Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to damage to residential houses and other structures. The downpour intensified over two days, exacerbating the risk of landslides, mudslides, and structural collapses in vulnerable areas.

Phalla Akhter, along with her daughters Nasima, Safeena Kousar, and Samreen Kousar, died in the collapse of their home in Kunderdhan Mohra village. 

Two elderly family members sustained injuries in the collapse and were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment while the rescue teams worked tirelessly to retrieve the bodies from the debris.

Meanwhile, the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway due to landslides and adverse weather conditions disrupted traffic movement, stranding hundreds of passengers. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) mobilised efforts to clear the road and ensure the safety of commuters.

Police authorities facilitated the evacuation of stranded passengers, including over 200 tourists, to safer locations in Ramban district.

Authorities issued advisories urging people to avoid travel on the affected highway until restoration work is completed.

With the heightened risk of flooding and landslides, police and disaster response teams remain on high alert to address any emergency situations promptly. Control rooms have been set up across districts to coordinate rescue operations and ensure timely assistance to those in need.
