A man held for allegedly smuggling gold reportedly ended his life by jumping off the sixth-floor office of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in the CGO Complex in Nagpur, a police officer told PTI on Monday.
According to the PTI reports, the incident took place in the DRI office in Seminary Hills here late Sunday night, the Gittikhadan police station official said.
The officer said, "Deepak Machhindra Desai (27) was arrested on June 14 from Sangli in a case involving the smuggling of gold from Dubai for sale in Uttar Pradesh. His associate was earlier held after gold worth Rs 2 crore was found in a car going from Varanasi to Lucknow."

"On Sunday night, when Desai was being questioned by DRI personnel, he jumped out of a window. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died of severe injuries. An accidental death case has been registered, and further investigation is underway," the officer added.
Nagpur Factory Blast
Nine workers were killed and three were injured in a blast at an explosives manufacturing factory near Nagpur city on Thursday afternoon, reported PTI, citing the police.
Of them, five women and a man died during treatment, he told mediapersons.
Most of the victims were working in the factory's packaging unit when the explosion took place, another police official said.
The blast took place around 1 p.m. at Chamundi Explosive Pvt. Ltd. at Dhamna village under Hingna police station limits, around 25 km from Nagpur.
Further investigation into the accident is underway, he added.
The police on Friday arrested Jay Shivshankar Khemka (49), the factory's director, and manager Sagar Deshmukh. They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Hingna. The two were soon granted a cash bail of Rs 50,000 each on Friday.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari visited the blast-affected factory along with officials.
"The factory management has assured to provide Rs 25 lakh to the families of each deceased, while the state government will give Rs 10 lakh to the kin of each victim," he said.
The factory is located in Dhamna village under Hingna police station limits, around 25 km from Nagpur city.
The Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, also visited the site. He said the guidelines prescribed for such factories should be strictly implemented. As per reports from PTI, he demanded Rs 35 lakh compensation and a Rs 20,000 monthly pension for the families of the deceased in the Nagpur factory blast.
