On Friday, two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officials were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxals went off in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, police said.

According to news agency PTI, the incident took place around 6:30 in the forest near Kutul village in the Kohkameta police station area. According to a police official, the incident happened when a team of ITBP's 53rd battalion was out on an area domination operation.

Two ITBP personnel came into contact with the IED, triggering an explosion that caused superficial splinter injuries to them, he said.

The wounded Jawans are said to be out of danger, as they were rushed to the hospitals after the explosion, said the police official. He added that the search operation is underway in the area. Further details regarding the incident are awaited.

Earlier, on June 7, six Naxalites were killed in an encounter that broke out with security forces at Chhattisgarh's Bastar on Friday, police said.

The encounter broke out between the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PGLA) Military Company No. 06 and the police forces, they said.

Two party members of Company No. 06, one People's Party Committee Member, one Deputy Commander, and an Area Committee Member of Bayanar Area were included among the dead Naxalites. The joint inter-district anti-Naxal operation was conducted in the Amdai Area Area Committee area of East Bastar Division.

The District Reserve Guard of Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada, and Bastar districts, the 45th Battalion Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and Central Reserve Police Force forces were involved in the joint operation.

According to the officials, two.303 rifles, one 315-bore rifle, one barrel grenade launcher, three 12-bore rifles, and a large amount of explosives and other Naxal everyday useable goods were recovered from the site.

They added that a significant number of other Naxalites were also likely to be injured or killed in the encounter, according to ANI.

Early in April, one of the largest operations was carried out by security forces in Chhattisgarh's Kanker. In the encounter, 29 Naxalites were gunned down, and huge quantities of arms and ammunition were also recovered.

As per police, three jawans were also injured during the exchange of fire and were shifted to a higher center for better treatment.

Bastar IG P Sundarraj referred to the operation as the biggest success in recent times.
