Nine IEDs and other explosives left by Naxalites in a hilly region of Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district were detonated by the police on Monday.

As soon as authorities received information about the presence of explosives in the Tipagad area, two bomb detection and disposal teams, a quick response team, and a C60 from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were dispatched to hunt for them.

A senior official said that the personnel, deployed to hunt for the explosives, were instructed to destroy them if necessary.

Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Neelotpal stated that they had credible information that Maoists planned to carry out bombings during the Lok Sabha Elections in 2024, but there was no indication of where the blasts would take place.

The senior official said due to lack of clarity on the location of blast planned, they carried out area domination exercises and had heavy deployment of security personnel to avert attacks.

The official said that the team dispatched had found nine IEDs, three claymore pipes, six pressure cookers filled with explosives and detonators and three additional claymore pipes with explosives and shrapnel.

The officer claimed that further items found at the location included blankets, some medications, and a small bag containing gunpowder.

The BDDS destroyed nine IEDs and three claymore pipes and the remaining materials were burnt on the spot.
