Mumbai Police fines 9,658 vehicles for parking at city bus stops, e-challan's worth over Rs 10 lakh sent to owners

Mumbai Police has fined around 9,658 vehicles in the past weeks for parking at the city bus stops, the police said on Monday.

The police has been taking stringent action against vehicles parked at bus stops leading to obstructions to the commuters, an official said.

According to the police, e-challans worth over Rs 10.21 lakh were sent to the vehicle owners in the past weeks.

"A special drive against parking at city bus stops was undertaken by the Mumbai Police recently. The special operation began on April 24 and until May 5, the city police officials have fined 9,658 vehicles and e-challans worth Rs 10, 21,710 was sent to the owners of the vehicles for violations of traffic rules," an official said.

The police said that due to parking of vehicles at various bus stops the commuters including students, specially abled people, senior citizens , etc face problems in boarding the buses due to obstruction and it is a violation of traffic rules to park vehicles at the public bus stops hence the special drive was undertaken by the police.

"The police will continue to take action against such vehicles ahead too," the official added.

'All Out Operation' of Mumbai Police in city

Meanwhile, last week Mumbai Police conducted a special overnight 'All Out Operation' in the city and nabbed as many as eight wanted or absconded accused, the police had said on Saturday.

According to the police, Mumbai Police conducted the operation on the intervening night of May 3 and 4. The operation involved a coordinated effort by the cops across the city.

Top police officials, including Additional Commissioners of Police, Deputy Police Commissioners, Divisional Assistant Commissioners, and Senior Police Inspectors, were part of the massive operation ahead of the voting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Mumbai on May 20. The motive was keep up and maintain the law and order in the city, sources said.

During the operation, a significant combing effort was carried out, resulting in the arrest of as many as eight suspects who had either been wanted or absconded in criminal cases.

Mumbai Police also conducted nakabandis at 111 spots in the city, a staggering 7233 two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles were inspected during organised nakabandis.

Around 77 motorists were penalised under the Motor Vehicle Act (MV Act) for drink and drive and action was taken against 2440 in various cases of MV Act, the police said.
