Mumbai: 23-year-old IIT Kanpur alumnus, working in city, ends life in Mahim home

A 23-year-old graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur allegedly committed suicide in his flat in Mahim, Mumbai, according to a police spokesman on Thursday. Rohan Kumar Jha, an MBA graduate, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in the kitchen of his flat near the Sithladevi Temple on Wednesday evening.

Jha was originally from Patna, Bihar, and worked for a well-paying insurance company. After getting the alarm, police came on the scene and took him to Sion Hospital. Unfortunately, physicians pronounced him dead upon arrival, reported PTI.

According to the report, an investigation into Jha's death is presently underway, with officials meeting with his friends and family. No suicide note was discovered, and the body was handed over to his family, the official from Mahim police station stated.

"He is a native of Patna in Bihar. Jha was working in an insurance firm at a good salary. After being alerted, police arrived at the site and rushed him to Sion Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival," he said and the official added, "We have not found any suicide note. The body was handed over to kin."

A 19-year-old teenager who had been picked for a merchant navy position died in an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Highway on Thursday, police said. According to PTI, the man died when his scooter was hit by an unidentified car on the Mumbai-Pune Highway's service road.

According to an official statement to the news agency, the incident occurred on Wednesday, as the victim, Samarth Sarika Karale, was riding his scooter to Kamothe in Navi Mumbai.

Authorities told PTI that the crash occurred at about 3 am on the Mumbai-Pune Highway near Uran Phata.

According to the report, Karale had lately earned a place in the merchant marine and would begin his responsibilities next month. However, in the meantime, the 19-year-old had started working for an online grocery delivery firm.

A speeding vehicle collided with Karale's two-wheeler on a service road. According to the investigation, he died at the site from his injuries.

The unidentified motorist has been charged with causing death by negligence and reckless driving at the Nerul Police Station.
