Against the backdrop of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) putting up an impressive performance in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, a CPI(M) delegation met with Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leaders Sharad Pawar and Jayant Patil in Mumbai, reported news agency ANI.

The MVA won 31 out of the 48 seats, leaving just 17 seats to the BJP-NDA (as against 42 seats in 2019).

The CPI(M) delegation comprised Ashok Dhawale, Uday Narkar, Narasayya Adam, ex-MLA, JP Gavit, ex-MLA, Vinod Nikole, MLA, DL Karad, Ajit Nawale, MH Shaikh, and Subhash Jadhav.

During the meeting on June 15, the delegation congratulated the leaders for the success of the MVA-INDIA (bloc) and the NCP in the recent polls, reported ANI.

The NCP leaders also acknowledged the efforts of the CPI(M) in these elections all over Maharashtra for the MVA, and also the consistent struggles of the people led by the AIKS, CITU, and other mass fronts in the state.

Party sources told ANI that there was a 55-minute discussion about the ensuing Vidhan Sabha elections due in October 2024. This included positive preliminary talks about the 12 state assembly seats that have been short-listed by the CPI(M) state committee.

There was also a brief discussion on a vision document, alternative policies, and electoral tactics. The CPI(M) submitted a memorandum dealing with all these issues, the sources told ANI.

Sharad Pawar stressed the need to intervene on the issue of a remunerative price for milk farmers. Holding a workers' demonstration in the coming state assembly session was also discussed.

The sources further told ANI that a CPI(M) delegation will soon meet leaders of the other two main constituents of the MVA-INDIA bloc - the Congress and the Shiv Sena (UBT).
