On a flight from Muscat to Mumbai, a 51-year-old passenger was detained for smoking in the lavatory, authorities reported on Wednesday. The incident, a police official said, happened on Monday at 11:56 p.m. on Vistara's UK234 flight, which was heading from Muscat to Mumbai, reported PTI.

According to the report, Balakrishna Rajayan, a passenger from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, was seen smoking a cigarette in the Mumbai-Muscat aircraft's back lavatory.

The crew, the official told the news agency, looked into it after the pilot used a detector to find the smoke. In the washbasin, they discovered the butt of a cigarette. The crew informed ground security about the incident as soon as they touched down on Tuesday morning at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the PTI report added.

According to the report, Rajayan turned over the matchbox that was used to light the cigarette after admitting to smoking in the lavatory.

After being brought to the Sahar police station, a complaint was made against him for posing a risk to the security of other passengers. Section 25 of the Aircraft Rules and section 336 of the Indian Penal Code both charge Rajayan. The inquiry is still on, the report added.

In another unrelated case, a 30-year-old actor, known for creating social media video content, was arrested for reportedly tailing Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's convoy at the Bandra Worli Sea Link in Mumbai in an apparent attempt to avoid paying toll for his car, according to a police official on Wednesday.

The man, identified as Shubam Kumar, was following the chief minister's motorcade at the sea link toll plaza on Monday with his family, according to a police station official from Bandra. A traffic officer motioned for Kumar to stop, but he didn't, reported PTI.

According to the report, when Kumar disregarded the constable's signal, he was apprehended close to Worli. He was detained by the Bandra police for the offence.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Kumar attempted to evade toll charges on the sea bridge by tailing Shinde's convoy, which was en route from Thane city to his official residence 'Varsha' in South Mumbai, the report added.

Kumar faces charges under Indian Penal Code sections related to rash and negligent driving, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
