What inspired you to take up pageantry?

Sini Shetty
: Reflecting on my journey, winning the Miss India title in 2022 marked a pivotal moment for me. It was a year where I lived two distinct lives simultaneously. On one hand, I was immersed in the corporate world, pursuing a career in accountancy under the CFA program. On the other hand, I was passionately engaged in dance, which has been a constant source of joy and expression throughout my life.

And then, Miss India happened and everything changed. Until then, I felt content with my life, believing I had achieved everything on my 2022 bucket list. But entering Miss India opened my eyes to a whole new world of pageantry. It was love at first sight. Personally, I felt a newfound sense of vision and purpose in my life. I realised there was so much more I could accomplish with my abilities and caliber. It was a moment that ignited a fire within me to strive for greater things.

What happens if you win the title?
Shetty: If I were to win the title, I see it as a gateway to a myriad of opportunities. This platform would enable me to delve into various aspects of life, allowing for personal growth as well as exploration in different areas beyond my own self.

My utmost desire is to bring pride to India. Possessing the crown would enable me to make mankind positively on a global scale. I envision travelling across the globe, uncovering new possibilities and finding ways to illuminate others' lives with the influence of the title. However, amidst this excitement, I'm also mindful of the countless other opportunities awaiting me in life, which I'm determined to seize.

How was your desire to pursue pageantry received at home?
Shetty: Raised in a feminist household, I was instilled with a fervent ambition to make my mark in every pursuit. But to be honest, my parents were really concerned when they learnt about my decision. I recall a sense of worry and panic, as they questioned about the path I had decided to choose. In my opinion, they were justified in their questioning. Why the sudden switch? What prompted this change in direction? They were simply seeking logic.

Back in the day, I was already employed. I worked for a marketing firm, specifically a youth marketing organisation. Everything seemed to be going well, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to me, more I could achieve. Pursuing pageantry feels like a fulfilling endeavour, offering me the opportunity to explore and express myself in ways that go beyond my current professional role.

During one of the tough conversations, I told them how this decision gave purpose and direction to my life. It provides me with a sense of clarity and vision that I find incredibly empowering. While I am committed to fulfilling my current obligations and promises, I am also someone who does not give up easily. At this moment, this path feels exceptionally right and resonates deeply with my vision for the future.

Is Bollywood on the cards?
Shetty: If I get the opportunity, absolutely yes! I've grown up watching cinema and the idea of being an on-screen inspiration deeply resonates with me. Cinema has a fat and hungry audience and I believe I could contribute meaningfully to it. If given the chance to portray a character or take on a role, I would wholeheartedly embrace it.

I believe cinema serves as an escape for people. Therefore, while I may not always aim to address social issues in every role, I do see the potential to tell stories through various characters. That said, there are countless issues worldwide worth shedding light on, not just limited to India but extending across the globe. I think it's essential to highlight every issue that deserves attention. However, at present, I'm deeply involved in a project called "Aasha," which focuses on public speaking and empowerment as part of the 'beauty with a purpose' initiative.

We've partnered with Teach India and together, we've developed a three-month curriculum. Our efforts are directed towards advancing this initiative, and I'm optimistic that in the months ahead, we'll see an increase in participation, leading to a more significant impact within the community.

Tell us about your prep-up routine
Shetty: It's been quite a journey because, ultimately, I'm not just representing myself but an entire nation. The preparation has been rigorous; we've focused on honing our communication skills, refining our walk and talk and perfecting our presentation to ensure that we embody the values of India to the fullest. This is not just about representing India on the Miss World stage but it's about showcasing the best of India to the world as Miss World has come to our country.

Our preparations have been meticulous, particularly regarding our dietary and fitness regimen. I believe in the importance of exercise and prioritising mental health alongside physical well-being. It's all about finding that balance and nourishing both body and soul. It's been an incredible two-year journey of preparation and finally, I'm here, ready to give my all.

With only a few days to go - how are you keeping your cool?
Shetty: I admit that pressure can become overwhelming and adversely impact mental well-being. However, I strongly believe in the importance of nurturing one's passion as that offers solace. Personally, dance has helped me maintain my cool as I gear up for the grand finale. Also, taking moments to breathe and reminding myself that everything will be okay serves as a grounding practice during challenging times. It helps me re-align with my purpose to give my best and remain true to myself.

With only three days left, I've decided to simply go with the flow of the schedule set up by the Miss World team, as it's been wonderfully organised. Each day begins with early rising, prayer and a brief meditation session, followed by breakfast and rehearsals. The schedule varies daily. Despite the changes, every day brings a unique experience filled with joy.

A message for those looking to partake in beauty pageants?
Shetty: In today's world dominated by social media and its portrayal of a picture-perfect life, it's crucial to recognise that people often conceal their vulnerabilities. Therefore, it's essential not to push yourself and risk harm in trying to conform to unrealistic standards. Progress takes time and it's important to understand that achieving your goals is a gradual process.
