The German philosopher Nietzsche, who liked to danced daily, once wrote: "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." When it comes to dancing, there is no need to be a professional or have every move down perfectly. That's the beauty of the art form - you can interpret the music any way you like.

Luckily in lockdown, you really can dance like nobody is watching. Shaking a leg can temporarily take your mind off pandemic stress and lift your mood. So this month try to ‘dance it out' and release some worries by signing up for these virtual classes.

A bit of highbrow, a bit of Bollywood

In India, Bollywood and dancing are interconnected. But this class won't be limited to dance moves from Hindi film songs. Instead, it will blend graceful Kathak steps with energetic Bollywood ‘thumkas'. Tarantismo Creative Dance Company, a Bangalore-based dance organisation that has been around for almost 12 years now, will be facilitating the session. The dance classes will held both on weekdays and weekends, and you can pick a batch according to your convenience. They also have batches for kids between the ages of four and seven.

Keep it contemporary

Dancer Anirudh Roy is trained in Ballet, Contemporary and Chau dance forms. He has around 12 years of experience as a dancer and instructor. This Saturday, he is conducting a session on contemporary dance. This expressive dance style is a combination of modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Don't worry, this class is designed for beginners, so you won't be expected to do complicated moves straight away. Participants will be taught choreography on the Hindi song 'Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahi' from the 2017 movie ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu'.
